Overcomers United (OU) is an emerging nationally incorporated not-profit organization in Canada. Our motto is “people helping people leads to success”.

Overcomers United is a nationally incorporated non-profit organization with a mission driven by our motto: “People helping people leads to success”. We believe in empowering individuals through action and fostering a strong supportive community connection through the wide range of programs we offer. Core to our programming is a consideration for repurposed materials to promote environmental sustainability.

The inspiration behind OU was born on Thanksgiving of 2019, during the founder’s first holiday without their mother. Although a difficult first milestone, this time invited Veronica’s reflections on her mother’s qualities of resilience and perseverance, and her journey to Canada as a first-generation immigrant. Veronica found strength in the unity and shared lived experiences of Newcomers and the generations that would become their legacies. Overcomer’s United stands in honour and solidarity of the shared journeys of all immigrants who have built what Canada is today. It stands in defiance of division and isolation and welcomes all to stand together in their struggles and successes alike.

Overcomers United believes that transformative change must involve the following three pillars

  • Supporting the individual towards empowerment
  • The empowered individual supporting their community
  • Empowered communities breaking cycles of marginalization

Vision: We believe in equitable, prosperous, and environmentally sustainable communities where:

  • community bonds are strengthened and connections across the generations are formed
  • those who need a helping hand find an open door
  • individuals are empowered to live their dreams

Mission: We work to positively build capacity and impact our communities. OU aims to:

  • support and enable people struggling through difficult circumstances to overcome challenges and obstacles
  • foster and strengthen bonds in the community

Our services include:

  • Year-round Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) clinic – Providing free tax assistance and personalized support is invaluable, especially for vulnerable individuals navigating complex systems
  • Advocacy & Form Assistance – Helping with applications (like Wheel-Trans) removes barriers and ensures access to essential services
  • Tech Support & Digital Literacy – Bridging the digital divide empowers people to connect, access resources, and participate in today’s tech-driven world
  • Parkdale Connects: Creating Community Together – Uniting Parkdale residents through conversation circles, collaborative arts, mindfulness, games, exercises, language lessons and skill-building to combat isolation, foster well-being, and build a vibrant community.

To further combat isolation and bridge the generation gap, we are introducing two new initiatives:

  • Crafting Circle – A fantastic way to combat isolation while nurturing creativity and skill-sharing. Crafting has therapeutic benefits and can foster meaningful connections
  • Intergenerational Cross-Cultural Group – Pairing seniors with youth (or different age groups) can:
    • Reduce loneliness and age-based stereotypes
    • Encourage mutual learning (e.g., tech skills from youth, life wisdom from elders)
    • Strengthen community bonds
    • Community Development and Culture
