Position: People Operations Specialists – Volunteer – Part-time

Overcomers United is looking for a People Operations Specialist, for a volunteer, part-time position, who will report to the Founder and CEO, help build our team, enjoys connecting with others and working in a supportive team environment.

The candidate is expected to work remotely. This is an opportunity for junior and seasoned HR professionals to support a worthy cause and gain non-profit experience.

Overcomers United is a grassroots not-for-profit incorporated organization run solely by volunteers. Overcomers United aims to empower and support individuals experiencing difficult circumstances to achieve sustainable livelihoods through their entrepreneurial aspirations and goals, whether those center on being self-employed, bringing a business idea to life, opening an artist’s studio, or making and selling hand-crafted products, amongst other entrepreneurial pursuits. In supporting such entrepreneurial ventures, Overcomers United aims to impact an individual, their family and the larger community, as well as ensure that the projects supported are environmentally sustainable.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft volunteer manual and contracts
  • Create job postings and post to job sites
  • Screen candidates by specified criteria, conducting phone screens and scheduling interviews
  • Assist with onboarding of new volunteers, conducting reference checks and issuing volunteer contracts
  • Assist with administration of performance management procedures
  • Support the wider team with HR related projects or activities as required

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 6 months recruiting experience or 2 years general HR experience is preferred
  • Working knowledge of provincial legislation as it relates to recruiting
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, has initiative to identify what is required and implement solutions with minimal guidance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good administrative skills with the ability to multitask and adapt to change
  • Highly computer literate with capability of using email, MS Office and related business and communication tools
  • Excellent organizational, time management, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience in a non-profit organization is preferred

All Volunteers work as their personal schedules allow. We ask for a minimum commitment of two (2) hours per week with a minimum of one (1) year commitment.
